Uganda High Commission Wins Award for Promoting Investments
On 22nd January 2010, the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) held its 16th Annual Investor of the Year Award Ceremony at which it recognised the contributions of investors to the economy.
Since this year’s theme was “Competitiveness through science and technology”, the Awards sought to recognise competitiveness and innovativeness among investors and to encourage excellence, efficiency, and creativity in the field of science and technology.
In his welcome remarks, the Chairman, Board of Directors, Uganda Investment Authority, Mr. Patrick Bitature, revealed that a total of 439 projects were licensed during the period October 2008 to October 2009 with a total planned investment value of US $ 2,284,686,783.
The Uganda High Commission, London, which was nominated for the Special Recognition Awards, was represented by H.E. Joan Rwabyomere, Uganda’s High Commissioner to the UK and Ireland. She was commended for her role in promoting Uganda’s investments in the UK and Ireland through organising inward and outward missions. The Special Recognition Awards are given to different categories of individuals and companies in the following categories: excellent performance in the event’s theme, the best partner in promoting investment from Embassies, Media, and Districts etc, as well as Best Woman Entrepreneur, in a bid to motivate the women run businesses.
